چکیده

Temperature is a crucial factor for the safe operation of lithium-ion batteries. During operation, internal temperature rises above external due to poor inner thermal conductivity. Various sensors have been proposed detect temperature, including fiber Bragg grating sensors. However, authors’ knowledge, there no detailed description encapsulation sensor in literature shield it from strain. In this study, different methods strain compensation were compared find material most compatible with electrolyte. For this, we stored ethylene carbonate:ethyl methyl carbonate (EC:EMC) 3:7 LiPF6 (lithium hexafluorophosphate) electrolyte and applied changes. After evaluating terms handling, diameter, uncertainty, usability, hysteresis behavior, suitable was found be fused silica capillary polyimide coating.

Internal and External Temperature Monitoring of a Li-Ion Battery with Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors

The integration of fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors in lithium-ion cells for in-situ and in-operando temperature monitoring is presented herein. The measuring of internal and external temperature variations was performed through four FBG sensors during galvanostatic cycling at C-rates ranging from 1C to 8C. The FBG sensors were placed both outside and inside the cell, located in the center of ...

Use of a single-multiple-single-mode fiber filter for interrogating fiber Bragg grating strain sensors with dynamic temperature compensation.

An interrogation technique for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) strain sensors with dynamic temperature compensation using a single-multiple-single-mode (SMS) fiber filter as a temperature compensating element is presented. Experimental results show that this technique offers a resolution of better than 3.4 muepsilon for strain measurements in the range from 0 to 1667 muepsilon, and the temperature in...

Heterodyne detection for Fiber Bragg Grating sensors

In this paper, we present a Fiber-Bragg-Grating-based temperature sensor. The technique employs heterodyne detection using two Fiber Bragg Gratings. One of the gratings is used as a reference (local oscillator) and the second as a sensing arm. This sensor uses a Folded Mach-Zehnder interferometer. As the temperature changes, the Bragg wavelength of the FBG shifts. The heterodyne detection is us...

Preliminary Study on Integration of Fiber Optic Bragg Grating Sensors in Li-Ion Batteries and In Situ Strain and Temperature Monitoring of Battery Cells

Current commercial battery management systems (BMSs) do not provide adequate information in real time to mitigate issues of battery cells such as thermal runway. This paper explores and evaluates the integration of fiber optic Bragg grating (FBG) sensors inside lithium-ion battery (LiB) coin cells. Strain and internal and external temperatures were recorded using FBG sensors, and the battery ce...
